She said yes! – Jatan proposes to Payal – Indian Wedding Photographer

Less than 2 weeks ago, I got an email from a pretty awesome guy, Jatan, asking if I would capture his proposal to his long time girlfriend. I, of course, said yes and couldn’t wait to start planning! I get butterflies in my stomach whenever I photograph a proposal. I think I’m just as nervous as the person proposing. 🙂 It happens in a split second and I don’t want to miss a second of it.

After taking Payal to lunch, they both walked to Beutter park where I was waiting, pretending to photograph flowers. I saw them walk near by and Jatan did his super secret signal, (putting his watch on his other wrist). It’s vital that the person proposing have a signal. I can’t simply start shooting the moment the couple arrives or the girl will know something is up. I have to play it cool and wait for the signal that tells me that he’s about to propose.

Jatan got down on one knee, pulled the ring out of these awesome proposal socks, and popped the question! Payal, in complete surprise, said and “YES!” and they immediately embraced. After a few minutes, I introduced myself and congratulated the happy couple. The surprises weren’t over yet… Jatan planned a small portrait session for after the proposal. The two of them went home, changed and met me back at my studio.

Since they were dressed up, I decided to take them to a more urban setting. We started at the East Race and ended in downtown South Bend. We had so much fun and ended up discussing wedding plans on the drive there and back. I’m so very excited for them and I can’t wait to hear what amazing plans they have for the future.
