Two weeks ago, our travels took us to Detroit, Michigan for Stephanie and Brandon’s engagement session! Stephanie and Brandon recently moved into their new home and wanted to utilize it in their photos. Their gorgeous home made for the perfect backdrop for their lifestyle photos.
We started in the foyer with a few photos of the two of them next to Stephanie’s favorite home decor piece. Neither of them could stop laughing… the nervous giggles were in full swing!
Next a little wine and whiskey as they got comfy on their huge couch! I was pretty jealous… it looked so comfy! I had the two of them just talk and occasionally clinked their glasses together. Since this part of the session was lifestyle, I wanted them to act natural, like I wasn’t even there. I hid behind the fireplace for several of the images. I felt it gave the photos more visual interest but mostly, it gave them photos more of a lifestyle feel.
Stephanie wanted to do some photos on the fireplace for their Christmas card. The red flannel blanket instantly gave the photos a holiday feel and I love how they turned out!
We embraced fall as we went outside to their deck that is surrounded by colorful trees.
Before we left the house, I photographed Stephanie’s ring in a wreath made of wine corks. It was the perfect spot because most of the photos up until now were with a glass wine. I love when I can tell a couple’s story and it has a consistent theme throughout.
We got in our cars and drove about 20 minutes west to Plymouth, Michigan. Plymouth is this adorable town with colonial homes and a super cute downtown area. It was a cold, windy Wednesday night but the town was bustling with people.
Love the laughter and fun in this black and white image!
I found this cute door way that had a small overhead light. I placed Stephanie and Brandon underneath it and then stepped back, creating a very romantic and intimate look.
This alleyway shot and the one at the beginning of the post are so romantic! I love the blue sky and the red brick. Gives the photo color without drawing your attention away from Stephanie and Brandon.
What engagement session would be complete without a lift? The eclectic town and deep blue sky proved to be a very fitting backdrop for this epic moment!
Thank you Stephanie and Brandon for inviting me into your home! Can’t wait to see you again in September 2020!
