Intimate Saint Mary’s Wedding – Sophie & Joe – Notre Dame Wedding Photographer

This incredible couple met in the funniest of ways; a Halloween party. Sophie’s friend insisted on her talking with this cute guy (Joe) so they spent the next 2 hours talking about Theology.  She was certain that she had scared Joe off after their very long, non-romantic, talk that night. However, the following day, Joe asked her out for coffee. She assumed it was to finish their conversation on Theology; never for once thinking it was a date. But that was in fact their first official date that as lead us to today. ❤️

We started this wonderful day at Embassy Suites where I quickly got started on their details. Joe wears this cross necklace every day so it was very important to have it as part of the photos. Plus, the championship tie clip that his grandfather received when he too was at Notre Dame. You may recognize it from their engagement session. 😉

With brother Chris, college roommate Justin and soon to be brother-in-law Brody, it was time for Joe to get ready for the big day! Joe’s dad clipped on his grandfather’s tie clip for the special occasion. 👔

Joe’s portraits… the kid is a natural! 😎

Back to the bridal suite for Sophie’s details and getting ready time. 💍

The antique ring with Sophie’s class ring belonged to Joe’s great grandmother. It was her engagement ring and since then has been worn by all the brides in the family on their wedding day. It’s stunning and matched perfectly with Sophie’s details.

Maddison, Sophie and Maggie toasted in their matching robes! 🥂

Time to get our beautiful gal dressed! 👗

Sophie looks breathtaking! 😍

Before leaving for the chapel, we did a quick first look with dad, (aka the Colonel).

Ceremony time! The Holy Spirit Chapel at Saint Mary’s College.

Here comes the bride! 😍

The readers, Gospel and homely. 📖

How perfect are these two…!? 🥰

The exchanging of vows.

Sophie’s great uncle Mike, also known as Father Mike, brought a chalice that was made over 50 years ago. The cross on the chalice was made from Sophie’s great grandma Sophie’s wedding band. Sophie was named after her great grandmother.

Such a beautiful moment with Mary looking on.

Sign of peace.

Communion. Sophie and Joe were also the eucharistic ministers for their guests.

Mr and Mrs Funari! 🥳

Formal photos up at the alter. All the guests of the wedding. ⬇️

The wedding party.

The McDevitt’s and the Funari’s.

The newlyweds! 💍

We left the chapel to finish family formals outside of Le Mans Hall.

Sophie and Joe took at flower to Mary on the island.

Wedding party fun on the bridge!

Just the two of us!

Just a few feet from the bridge are these gorgeous willow tress. These are my favorite moments from the day! 😍

Everyone hopped on the bus and headed over to Notre Dame’s campus. Our first stop was the Grotto. Sophie laid her bouquet at the foot of Mary and the two of them said a little prayer.

Lighting a candle together. 🕯

More wedding party fun! 😁

Such a fun group! ☺️

The incredible flowers by Always N Bloom! 🌸

We walked back in time as Sophie and Joe sat down on that iconic bench, just outside La Fortune, where their first date took place. ☕️

Sophie abandoned her shoes and they two of them skipped through God Quad. I love this shot! ⬇️

Joe purposed on the James River, near Sophie’s hometown, so they could celebrate with family and friends. However, if he had done it on campus, it would have been here with the Holy Family. When they two returned home from her parent’s house, they went for a late night walk on campus and Joe re-proposed all over again. 🥰

We bustled Sophie’s dress and off we went to Tippecanoe Place for their reception. We arrived to find that Chalee of Always N Bloom and Jasmine of Tippecanoe Place had created a fairytale setting in the downstairs dinning room. 🥰

Let’s welcome the newly married Mr and Mrs Funari!!! 🥳

Sophie and Joe entered the dinning room and went right into their first dance.

Uncle Mike said a prayer over dinner and then the Colonel gave his welcome/toast to the happy couple.

As dinner was winding down, Chris (Joe’s best man and brother), Madison (Sophie’s adopted sister) and Maggie (Sophie’s sister and matron of honor), all congratulated the couple but not before making them laugh that they nearly cried. 🤣

A quick photo op with our ring bearer Pete, Sophie’s nephew. 🥰

Let’s eat pie! Sophie and Joe nixed the traditional wedding cake for wedding pie that a good friend of theirs made. Super yummy!

Now it was time for parent dances. You can easily see how close they are with their families.

As the guests were chit chatting, we snuck outside to get some photos around the beautiful grounds. ☺️

Love this wind-blown moment! So real.

Let’s get the party started!!! 🥳

Time to end this perfect day with two gorgeous photos on Tippecanoe Place’s grand staircase. 🥰
