Elegant Catholic Wedding – Anne & Scott – South Bend Wedding Photographer

Elegance meets hilarious with this gorgeous August wedding of Anne and Scott! From the moment the 3 of us met last year, I knew right away that we were the perfect fit! Anne is a planner/list-maker like myself and Scott never heard a joke he didn’t like. 🙃 We immediately clicked and I couldn’t wait for their big day!

The day started at an AirBNB were the boys were getting ready. I photographed Scott’s details first and then preceded to get the guys dressed. Since all 4 of them grew up together, there was no shortage of hilarious moments and making fun of one another.

I had each groomsmen help Scott with an essential part of his suit but his brother Craig failed when it came to tying his tie. As you can see in the photo below… it’s a little short. 🤣

Handsome alert!

I left the boys to eat lunch as I headed off to St. Monica Catholic church to see Anne and her gals. The church had recently remodeled their bridal suite and I’m so glad they did. The light is beautiful and there’s tons of space for everyone to get ready. Anne’s mom zipped Anne up and the girls each buttoned up part of her dress. Mom then put the finishing touches on with her veil.

I hung Anne’s dress in the foyer of the church against the stain glass doors. Of course I photographed it before she put it on but I thought it looked so pretty next to the beautiful portrait of her in the mirror as she put on her earrings.

These beautiful portraits of Anne are actually taken in the dark stairwell of the church. There’s an electrical box right next to her and the wall has a lot of scuff marks. However, you’d never know because I position her to one side and shot from an angle that minimized those distractions. Now all you see is this beautiful light on her face and the radiant blue wall behind her.

Time to go outside. We purposely made time to take bridal party photos before the ceremony. The gap between the ceremony and reception is shorter than normal so we made sure to get a lot of photos before hand. And you can do this even if you don’t do a first look, which they didn’t.

Anne’s mom made all the flowers! She did such an amazing job! 💐

Boys will be boys! 😎

While the guys were out doing their photos, Anne, her bridesmaids and her mom said a prayer for their marriage. Such an emotional moment.

Ceremony time! Anne and Scott chose to do a longer mass during their ceremony so the structure of the wedding was a little different than what you’d normally see. They had to kneel for most of the ceremony and even exchanged vows and rings while kneeling. I thought Father Jim and Father Jacob did an amazing job. The ceremony was so elegant and rich with tradition. I’ve shot weddings of all faiths and this particular ceremony was one for the books. 🥰

Side note: Here’s a perfect example of why a second shooter is a must for your ceremony… we can get two very different but equally powerful moments at the same time. Like the back shot of Anne and her dad walking up the aisle while I’m capturing Scott’s reaction and Anne’s excitement from the front.

Love a good balcony shot!

Praying to Mary. This camera angle and the black and white really accentuate the emotion felt at this moment.

I call this the many faces of Father Jacob! 😆

Formal portraits.

Love this shot through the sanctuary doors!

Anne really wanted a shot of her with the stain glass doors. The shot was so beautiful that I added Scott in there too!

Wedding party fun!

There was no shortage on giggles, that’s for sure! ☺️

They are attempting to be serious in these 2 photos but they quickly failed. 🤣

Dip for the win!

Creatives!!!

Even with the bright sun, we were still able to find a location that gave us gorgeous light and a beautiful background.

One more set of portraits!

We absolutely needed a swing shot since this is where Scott proposed to Anne! ❤️

Epic bridge shot… yes please!

We headed just over the river to Chicory Event Center for the reception. Anne’s mom made the centerpieces and decor, wow!

Party time! 🥳

After dinner, Troy (best man) and Stephanie (matron of honor) gave their toasts. 🥂

Cake time!!! 🎂

If you’re wondering why Anne has that weird look on her face, it’s because Scott was trying to feed her basically the whole piece instead of small bite. 🤣

First dance as husband and wife.

Parent dances! Scott’s two brothers joined in! 😆

Put on those dancing shoes! 💃🏻🕺🏻

We definitely needed a mask photo before the night was through. The mask kiss was too funny!

For the night shot, I wondered around for awhile, trying to find the right spot. Of course it was right outside the door of the venue. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I wanted to incorporate the venue and downtown in their night shot but make sure it wasn’t the same look as their engagement session. By going vertical with my angle and having Scott lift Anne, it elevated the photos and gave them a very unique look. Which one is your favorite? 🙂

To Anne & Scott – It was an honor to follow you on this beautiful journey and to capture your wedding day! I enjoyed every second of it… didn’t even feel like I was working. You two are such incredible human beings and you impact everyone you meet. At the end of the night, Anne, you gave me probably the best compliment I’ve ever received. You said, “I can’t wait to work with you for years to come!” I was speechless and still am. You both mean the world to me and I wish you nothing but love and happiness. All my love – S
